Delivering Centralised Fire System Monitoring Across a Distributed Campus Network

Discover how Cortech Developments and Spectrum Safety Solutions improved visibility, scalability, and operational efficiency across a distributed educational estate.

centralised fire alarm monitoring

Challenge

Large-scale educational environments with multiple operational zones require consistent and reliable fire system monitoring across all buildings. In this instance, the estate comprised five separate campus locations, each operating a mix of academic, residential, and support infrastructure.

With fire detection systems already deployed across the estate, the requirement was to introduce a centralised monitoring solution capable of consolidating alarm data from multiple Fike fire alarm panels. The objective was to improve operational visibility, standardise alarm handling, and ensure scalability across a rapidly expanding campus environment. Key requirements included:

  • Centralised visibility of fire alarm events across multiple sites
  • Standardised alarm interpretation across diverse building types
  • Seamless integration with existing fire detection infrastructure
  • A scalable platform to support future campus growth

Environment Overview

The deployment covered a large, multi-site academic environment operating across geographically separated campuses. The estate included a combination of lecture theatres, administrative buildings, student accommodation, and extensive sports and recreational facilities.

As a major public higher education institution, the estate forms part of a nationally recognised academic network and spans a significant land area developed to support both education and residential life. The distributed nature of the estate created additional complexity in maintaining consistent operational oversight across all locations.

Solution

Working in partnership with Spectrum Safety Solutions Private Limited, Cortech Developments delivered Datalog 5 software, integrated via a dedicated Fike interface driver to connect fire alarm panels across all five sites.

Datalog provided a unified monitoring platform designed to aggregate and normalise fire alarm events from multiple independent systems into a single operational interface. The solution enabled:

  • Centralised monitoring of fire alarm events across the entire estate
  • Integration of multiple Fike fire alarm panels into a single monitoring environment
  • Consistent presentation and interpretation of alarm data across all sites
  • Improved visibility across mixed-use academic, residential, and recreational facilities
  • A scalable architecture supporting future expansion

Collaboration and Implementation

Spectrum Safety Solutions provided on-site technical expertise, configuration support, and commissioning assistance across all five locations. Their role ensured:

  • Consistent system configuration across all campus sites
  • Coordination with local operational and facilities teams
  • Structured commissioning and validation processes
  • Smooth deployment across a distributed operational environment

This partnership approach ensured consistent delivery standards and effective integration across a complex multi-site estate.

Results and Benefits

The solution delivered a significant improvement in fire system visibility across all locations. Key benefits included:

  • Enhanced situational awareness across distributed campus sites
  • Standardised alarm monitoring and response processes
  • Reduced complexity of managing multiple standalone systems
  • Improved operational efficiency for facilities teams
  • A scalable foundation for future campus expansion
